The whole network area of the provider is divided into small cells or areas. In this network each cell or area has an antenna. Whenever a person along with a cell phone enters within the network area, the cell phone tries to keep a contact with the local antenna. Thus it is truly known as a cellular phone.

A cell phone retrieves its unique code from its service provider. This code distinguishes the cell phone from others and helps in identification. A series of events takes place whenever someone tries to make a call from the cell phone.

Whenever you switch on the cell phone it seeks for a system identification code to identify uniquely the provider on the control channel. This control channel can be a special frequency, which is used for the purpose of talking. Whenever the phone can’t find any control frequency it sends out a no service message.

When your cell phone gets the desired frequency it matches it with the system identification code which is programmed in to the phone. Then the GPS system and all of it’s related programs can track down your phone, locate it’s exactly location, and let’s you know where your phone is located. After receiving a call this office searches into the database to locate your phone and identifies the cell you are using.
